How to Remove Smoke, Dust, Fog, and Fire lag?

Post by Tallfire »

The above have been real problems while playing in game like when you're trying to remove a hopper mine or when you're trying to wade through the fire trap in Sawlife (why is that fire trap thing so laggy). Is it possible to limit all that special stuff in the smoke, dust, and fog or to remove them? I'm guessing smoke is because of the gas effect or smoke but it can still cause tons of lag.

If you play on your own, enable cheats and try r_drawparticles 0. As for in game nothing you can do there I'm afraid =(

Why do you need cheats for a command like that?

Because it give you an unfair advantage against others who may not need the command. Most cheat commands are based on this simple rule

Gives people with super computers an unfair advantage too. Besides, the advantage with smoke is more epicness if you can handle it. And an epicness rating does actually help you in battle.

Edit: In other words, it looks cool and some people like it looking cool with a mild effect on game play.

(besides its not like we can click a button and instantly upgrade hardware)

So, anyone know a way to replace or edit the folders causing these problems?

Lowering your gfx settings is about the most effective way of getting stuff to run more smoothly.

I'm not on the best machine.

Neico said it pretty rudely as if upgrading your machine was as easy as snapping your finger.

Same, i also don't have the best pc, but i can at least run EVERY source game with absolutely no lag even with particles. i would have to go with what everybody else said in this here thread: get a better graphics card.
