A seemingly simple explanation.
But it can lead to another question if you overanalyze it. Who's really the dark and the light? From who's perspective are the outcomes viewed from?
Is the end of the level just to control the destruction caused by the players? (We all [should] know the actual answer here.)
TL;DR If there is some omniscient being (in theory, the server), whose side is it on?

But if Obsidian is both light and dark, then isn't the obsidian fighting itself?

Didn't you pay attention in school? It's an Igneous rock and it forms outside of the volcano when the the lava has a high silicon content.

It seems stupid because it is incredibly stupid, Keychain.
You must understand it will look retarded to others and very few will see my point unless they try REALLY hard to understand.
But even then, the odds are people won't understand.
I actually used a philosophical approach there, and that is, in a sense, a stupid idea for this analysis. I took an interpreted method of Plato's (I interpreted it, of course.) and applied it to this setting.
All because I was rather bored, but it seemed like a good idea.

I have a hypothesis, shut up and maybe you'll regain some intelligence.

To be honest the way Philosogamer post describes the over analytical view of OC is how I actually see it. Sort of like a game virtual reality where you play as both sides of the HL2 universe. (While there are very few combine themed levels in OC :()

I find it funny that Obsidian is black, yet the menu screen is blue-ish. Then again, it could have to do with chromatic mixing.
(Also, I'm back.)
I usually run from rockets.
Pretty straightforward.
