half life 2 is more advisable since that is the main body of the game l4d2 not really advised.
on a side note: normally someone gives a gift to a person he or she know good and not to random poeple that they havent met before.

you really should consider getting Orange Box if you want to play OC..instead of L4D2 since it doesent give you anything else necessary than sdk base.
like 70 - 90% of maps uses content from hl2, ep1, ep2 and/or css. l4d2 is used for nothing, so getting OB instead of L4D2 will give you hundreds of times better OC experience.... unless you like to have tons of missing textures and such in most of the maps :rollseyes:

To have the best experience in the mod you need to get at least the orange box, this mod can mount content from hl2-ep2, cs:s, dod:s, and lost coast. Getting the orange box would let you play on all the maps that have content from hl2-ep2. There's a few maps that use cs:s content so it wouldn't hurt getting that too, don't know of any maps so far that use dod:s content. Getting l4d2 wouldn't really work for this mod very well, since you wouldn't really get very much of the content required by the mod.

You don't need the disk anyways since every valve game, no matter if you buy retail or online, you register on your steam account.

Also if you don't buy online like you said, then how do you intend to pay whoever gifts you the game back?

good thing that I don't read such threads in general, else he would be banned by now as I hate thise trade chat stuff as hell (If you really want someone to gift you a game, add it to your wishlist and wait for someone to notice it)
