We could go with something along the lines of your first suggestion. Though this weapon uses charged ions not Dark energy.

While having a large number of abbreviating letters may make it a weapon that doesn't come to everyone's head when they think of it.

My entry would be something like: ER3 (Energy Rifle 3 - 3 being the third design of a rifle. Just like the 2 in AR2 is represented)

umm they could use the Dark Energy cores to ionize the air... it kinda make sense from a sifi point of view (that and the fact ALL combine tech uses that as the power source)

Interesting, I'll think it over.

And Gtaiiilc, I was going to use Dark energy for it's power source, but I doubt they would use the power-source in the name of the weapon.

You're probably seeing server admins running around with a cannon? That's the Combine Guard Cannon probably. And that's not this weapon. :p

Ion Rifle or Plasma Rifle?, this is just the name, not anything that effects the weapon it's self, and acording the the sound files, it's proper name is Ion.
