Is it Worth Mounting Episode 2 Content?

Is it worth putting Episode 2 content in a OC map, or will it cause many people to not be able to play it?

Though most of the people around here do probably have ep2, you should think about whether it really adds to the map.

some ep2 content like the hunter model is already in the mod content so you also need to look what is already there and what really needs ep2 content

Well in terms of textures models etc, you have more to choose from.

You can then start to make your map, with textures that are new to the eye and do not create an association with other well known maps.

From a mapping point of view things can be a bit tricky, well because I have sdk files all over the place I find my self opening the map in ep2 sdk to get models textures etc, then I take the map to obsidian and do my ent work.

Also a note Valve seems to use propstatic less and less, and lots of simple props u'd assume could be static are dynamics. It's just finding bits like that out.

Well I'm going to go with the poll. There is a lot of stuff I could use from Ep2 that fits my theme of an underground facility. Sorry to all those who don't have it, but if you don't you're missing out on something much greater than my little map!! Go buy it!

if the ep2 content needed for the map isn't too much (some textures and some models, low filesize) it's better to include the content into the map, it's fraking retard make as requeriment ep2 content when u only need 2 models and 3 textures and 1 sound.

if the map needs tons of ep2 content is better to make the mount

I don't see why not. If people don't have ep2 then they just won't play it, besides, most of us own it now anyway.

Well I finished copying all of my ep2 files to my OC directory and started working on my map again. I'm happy to say that ep2 is really working its way into my map. Everything that I was looking for before is in ep2's content and its making my map really come to life.

Looks like my map is going to have to be split into 4 separate ones though, because I see I'm running out of space fast. I figure a prelude, the main story and then two branched endings. Branched meaning: based on your decisions as a team in the main story, the map you play next will be different.

Maybe in a day or two. I already have a few up in the WIP forum. Look for oc_undersiege. No NPCs yet.

Episode 2, IMO is the best Linear/Story-mode style Source game. I would pick it up, but get Ep1 first of course. :)

Well hl:s is worth the money imo.

With all sources graphics, Valve forgot the adventure side of things that made Black Mesa, no way does hl2 have anything near the level of hl puzzles and traps etc!

Bought played HL1 (played once ep)
Bought played Opposing force (same)
Never played blue shift though i keep promising myself seeing as its sat on my hdd.
Bought hl2 (played once sp)
I actually bought then played hl:s and ep1 just for oc coop.

and hl2,lostcoast and ep2 I played all once sp the rest multi times coop.

I'm not a fan of playing sp much.

So hl:s is worth it for the memories
