OC Server?

Is it possible to Increase the max player limit higher then 16.

Why don't we just unlock it to the full limit, 128?
So if someone somehow has the power to have that many, they can go right ahead.

Yeah, I don't think there is even 128 players on OC at once anyways...
But still, who cares if it is stupid, its there if someone wants it.
Same thing if someone made is 300 core CPU, yes, it is stupid as no software could make use it, but, it's there if someone ever decides to make use of it.
And it's not hard to change the value:
in hl2mp_gameinterface.cpp.
And have a warning for going over 32.

I'm am not, I am just pointing out that there is no real reason not to. I am fine with it if he doesn't want a 128 limit though. But I strongly suggest something along the lines of a 32 or 64 player limit.

Its fine as it is. 32 maybe for pvp maps, but thats it.

Okay then. Just the way I look at it, I would just prefer to never run into a limit(thus the reason for 128). But I understand if you see it differently, it's up to you anyways, I was just saying my opinion on the matter.

Even better, could of sworn it was 128 though...
Wouldn't that be epic, a 127v127(1 spectator) game? Though I would assume, around that amount of players that the engine would become unstable...

it already is with 128...
also the netcode simply isn't designed for so much, no server could handle that

i don't really get it. if someone wants their server to handle more than 16 players then why would that be stupid?
especially for pvp maps like for example that large one with all the sand and antlions it would make perfect sense
in the end it should be the server owner's decision if he wants to have a decent coop (max 8 ) server or if he likes to have a giant pvp mess, don't you think?

Its just not realistic for co-op.
And trust me I'm the biggest fan of large servers. If I play TF2 or anyother multiplayer PVP mod for HL2 I insist on 32 man servers.
I used to play BF1942 and Desert Combat on 64 man servers
And Tribes 2 also 64 (though they did have a 100 man server up for a while, that was fun).
Even PVP mods for hl2 rarely go above 32, I think Empires is probably the one exception.
End of the day co-op servers have all the AI calculations to deal with along with all the rest that PVP mods have, its just not worth it.
And our PVP maps rarely get 16 players running about on them, and a lot of our PVP maps still have AI npcs in some of them. So I'd say no more than 20 man servers for PVP. But in all honesty its fine as it is.
16 is perfect!
