Make sure that the path is set correctly when you're installing the mod. It doesn't autodetect your SourceMods folder so most people need to set it themselves.
Also, you need to restart steam after you've installed it for the game to appear on the list.

Not every steam install uses a valve folder. I know mine doesn't.
No idea why that's the case though. :/

I unno,. I installed it into my steam folder. really? why have the valve folder it just adds something that you wil never use. what else could possible go into the vlave folder by deafult?
not the retail half life that's for sure. that goes into the sierra folder.

If it still hasnt appeared you can always make a shortcut from your hl2 exe and then change the target to read something like mine."C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220 -game "c:\program files\valve\steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\obsidian" for some reason it didnt appear in my steam at first even after reboots but now its there, but the shortcut works just as well.

Mine doesn't go in A steam folder or a Valve folder. It goes in a Veritas Software folder. :/

Steam install path changed at one point, and I think retail install is different as well.

Someone should make a sticky explaining because lots of people have been asking this question.
