hey! just a few questions

Post by fred_the_hamster »

hey there people! I been playing the mod for a week or two now and I love it, but I was wondering... when I make my own server it always appears on LAN when I make it. how do I make it on the normal internet list? (and this isnt a dedicated server either, Im talking about create game from the main menu) any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Glad to hear you like the mod! You should be able to get your server to show up by setting the convar sv_lan to 0. If that doesn't work, then there's some problem with your firewall preventing it from showing.

OR
if your running off of a router your gonna have to forward your ports. NO amount of trying anything in the world can happen if you don't forward your ports

I tried the sv_lan thing and it didnt work, my firewall allows me to play the game but im gonna try shutting it off for a minute anyway. I do run off a router, how do I forward my ports? and could it possibly damage my network or connection if I do? how do I get my ports back to normal afterwords?

Yes it does damage your hardware, also after typing sv_lan 0 in console, type status in console and by your steamid it should say STEAMID_PENDING and not STEAMID_LAN

in what way does it damage the router if you port forward?

well i had the same problem and port forwarding solved it for me but every company has its own way of doing this, mine had a easy control panel style internet page that allowed me to set half-life2 mods to use all ports. Easy to do, only if you knew where to set it.

:D well it dosent realy run like crap to me. Thanks to the router no spyware, trojans are getting in and i still can do whatever is necesary by manually allowing programs to use ports. And it should be software then, not hardware Image
