Episode 1 Content.

Ok so heres the deal.
For HL2 SP to work correctly you will need to turn Episode 1 Content off.
For HL2 EP1 Content to work you will need to turn Episode 1 Content on.
If you try to play HL2 SP with EP1 content on npcs will have missing scripted animations etc...
So if you want to play normal HL2 SP, make sure Episode 1 content is off.

By turning Episode 1 content ON you are enableing the use of the EP1 Barney and Alyx models. Also their animations which lack HL2 SP animations unfortunatly.

so will there be like episode 1 and vanilla servers? i cant imagine 2 players playing together and one is missing episode 1.

people should really only use ep1 content if they want to play those maps. Other than that its pretty pointless. If one person has it on tho it wont effect things if others dont in a map that doesnt use ep1 content.

Lemme get this straight...
If you DON'T have epsiode1, then there's SOME maps you can't play?

I cant get all Ep1 maps to show up yet still i have Ep1 content enabled and i own HL2:Ep1. And the maps i can play on for example the area when your suppose to take up a rollermine the combine shield wont turn off so you can pass throught.

We never said it was going to work flawlessly. Its a game designed for one player. Treat it that way.

'nuff said.
2 players is still playable though , you just need to think about what will happen and take precautions (stick together , literally.)
Maybe you should ask guardian from Sven co-op to convert hl2sp and ep1 for co-op support ? He probably wont accept , but its still worth asking.
