The G36 is really a AR18 clone with a lot of plastic around the workings.
H&K really just added features like an ambidextrous charging handle, multiple rails, and a folding stock. I kinda wonder why the Bundeswehr dropped the G3, because it fired the 7.62 NATO, which is a more powerful, albeit harder-kicking cartridge.
