Just a quick update here: I've managed to add in varying spawn locations depending on how far you've got in the maps. Thanks to Gandorques Hikla's wonderful tutorial (which unfortunatly no longer contains images or download links), I've made a set of 6 teleporting spawns that will each disable/enable as soon as someone spawns into them, preventing people from getting stuck. If one teleporter is blocked, the player can just move into another one (thus preventing gibbage).

I'm still working on a way to unblock a teleporter exit automatically, if, for example, some n00b pushes a bunch of physics props onto each of the spawn points (a difficult task, considering you can't see where people spawn).

I'm planning to release a set of nine teleporter destinations with an initial spawning area as a prefab to the community once it's got a few more bugs worked out. (For those who are confused: 6 spawn points * 9 different locations = 54 different places to spawn (6 places at a time)) I've set it up so that players will initially spawn at one location, then, upon triggering an event, the players will start spawning at a new location, and so on, nine times. No more footslogging!!

It might be too late for you to use this now, but in Obsidian you can use an enable and disable input on info_player_deathmatch to make incremental spawns in a map, which is probably a little easier than the way you are doing it.

I tried that on my oc_antlion_attack map, but i seemed to freeze the game occasionally when it couldn't find a spawn point. I'm not sure if that still happens - I'll have to give that a shot...

It will ;)

------

Compliments and sexual fantasies aside, it's time for a bit of an update!

I finally got cubemaps working - it seems I have to buildcubemaps, shut down obsidian completely, then open it up again  Anyways, they're working and it looks absofuckinglutely beautiful. :D The only major gripe I have with it now is the lag - in some spots it's patchy, and it's really annoying me. I mean, it's playable (~15-20 fps in some spots) on a listen server, but I really want to get it running smoother.

And also, the moment many of you have been waiting for, this map section will be ready for testing very soon. I've got to add proper cubemaps into the second map, then check if it all compiles properly, and then we should be ready to do some BETA! So I'm hoping sometime tomorrow (Saturday) night.

Stay tuned!

-DaMaN

EDIT: I know (ok, ok, first) gtaiilc, W0rf0x, Gandorques Hikla, and now fug4life and Fenrir! have offered to beta test - if anyone else is interested, let me know.

Who said you could take time out to post an update? GET BACK TO WORK IMMEDIATELY!!!!

You can damn well put my name down!!!!!!

Nice to hear its coming along, It took me a while to work out cubemaps, to compile hdr and non hdr and then restart the game, blah, blah. What really annoys me, Is every 6 months, you change something to do with hammer or you install something esle and then hammer changes they way you have to fire up your map and you get all sorts of new errors.
It's like a persistent mmorpg! Feels like you leveling up and stuff!
<cough><rambling>

Getting Impatient! although I'm stable for now, I think I'll manage....

I'll beta for you.

Aside from that, again the map is gorgeous.
You could probably become a team mapper if you asked really nice =]

M-M-M-M-MEGAUPDATE!

Well, perhaps not so mega.

Anyways, I've just completed my latest compile of the two maps, and, seeing very few things worth spending another 8 hours compiling, I've decided it's about time for some beta testing action!!

Currently, I've PM'ed the map download link out to all those who wanted to beta test (gtaiilc, W0rf0x, Gandorques Hikla, fug4life and Fenrir!), and if you also want to beta test, let me know and I'll send you the link. And I'll probably make it an open beta at some point. (Maybe after those five get back to me with feedback).

And to you, gtaiilc, W0rf0x, Gandorques Hikla, fug4life and Fenrir!, get testing! I'm expecting feedback!
