Manually made, its fairly easy to do if you've got an image editing program (see: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Overviews).

Automatically show up on map load.

Can you actually put 2 different kinds of overlays on the screen at the same time? if so, making objective boxes could also be possible

Pass, maybe with some clever ent work and a ton of vtfs etc.

Recently I have this dream of making a remake of the old racing game: Powerslide. First thing I wanted to do was model the cars. I have picked up a couple of tutorials for XSI and stuff but now I need reference pictures. I have the game itself but I was wondering if I could open the game data archives which contains them and take a look at what is inside. Perhaps uncovering handy stuff which could help me a lot.
The archives are in .pf. Anyone know how to open them? :p

The thing that is so cool about Powerslide is the setting (environment) and the cars. But also that every surface affects the traction, drag, acceleration and whatever. Really cool. :D Recently I got my hands on it and thus this project thing.

(the guy has more too)

P.S.: If anyone is interested, I can give you the game. It's not big and it has about 10 maps. But it sure is a lot of fun. :D

Just messing around with ideas, tbh I really just felt the need to build something in hammer, but there are some ideas behind it all.
And yes there are a couple of models from provenance in there, before anyone asks.

Yeah basically, I'm making a loosley based remake of the opposing force and blueshift, training but for oc.

There will be an assault course, and of course weapons training in the form of a target range, close combat aswell as special ops stuff like cloak and shield usage.

Not very co-op more role-play fun.

So hence forth this will be known as oc_academy

Then I'll make a follow up combat map (name not confirmed but maybe oc_theshit :)

That's a good idea, I didn't actually know about how you could pick stuff up until I read the oc_diving thread :S

Lol. I had this idea too but then for a model I was gonna make with two types of ammo in it.
OICW but then how it should be.
That way it has a nade launcher in it too. Which is why there is a big ass scope on it. That is actually a computer...

I bet that was inspired by Full Metal Jacket.

Remember this map:

Nope never seen that before? Who's is that?

I like the lighting and scale of that one and the ceiling design, only thing I think I have that is an improvement is the floor texture I used

Oh well, I may ditch the grunt feeling, and just make it more hl2 rebel.

The barracks was inspired by the one in the movie Full Metal Jacket. Yours looks similar to the one in that movie as well.

Oh and the flag is from Provenance, am I right?

Oh, I must of totally missed that screen shot or just didn't join the screenshot to the movie.

Yes I made mine from what I could remeber of the movie, I actually have it on DVD, but haven't watched for about a year. So I made it from memory. I played through the opposing force version yesterday, just to see what that was like as I'd also forgotton.

TBH the whole reason I thought about making a trianing map was because I started to play blueshift about a month ago (Valve gave it to me free via steam about idk 3-4 years ago and I never played it). As it happens I has so much fun playing the training part I thought about doing something similar for oc. I've actually stopped playing blueshift right after the training  maybe I'll continue one day.

I have to say out of all Valve games, I think opposing force was the best for me, shame Valve didn't make it :) gotta love Gearbox!
