Well, good news bad news time. Ok, actually it's just bad news.

My computer crashed after mapping for 2 hours this morning, causing the map file to become corrupted, along with the autosave file. I managed to get back to where I was around an hour and a half later, but now I'm out 3.5 hours. Meaning that there's no way I'm going to make a beta tonight. Tomorrow night maybe, tonight no. :cry:

Sorry guys. But I'll have some status updates soon!!!

That really suck. I hate it when that happened. I alway set the autosave to every 5 minutes and alway make a backup of the map incase something happen.

Glad the autosave saved an older 'version' of your map.

Well frak. I'm just about finished the map, (not including soundscapes and cubemaps) and I get a compile error:

MAX_MAP_ENTITIES.

Evidently there are only allowed to be 4096 entities in a map at one time. I have 4381. And I'm not quite finished.

So this is just super.

I guess it's going to be good-old hack-n-slash to get this map down to size. It's going to be pretty brutal to do, but I think i'll be able to manage it. Maybe kill some info_nodes or something. Ugh. I really hate it when this happens.

It's such a huge map that I'm not really surprised, but I'm very disappointed, because this adds quite a bit of delay to the release.

Zombies. Lots and lots of zombies. 4381 zombies to be exact.

Seriously though, most of it's tied up in scripted sequences, info_nodes, decals, overlays, lights, point_spotlights, etc. Things that make the map look good. Only about 400 entities are brush-based, (after I merged a bunch together). But yea. It's a BIG map. I just got it to compile (by hacking, slashing and merging entitites), and played through most of it with buddha mode, a stupidly powerful 1 shot killing weapon, and impulse 101 most of the time, and it took me an hour. It's pretty damn big.

Anyways, I also got a lot of scripted weapons. Here's a few:

I played around with adding custom melee weapons and no dice. Unless of course you want a bullet-shooting katana (hey... that sounds pretty cool!).

So... yea. I got my entities down to 4095 and compiled it. Lots of work still to be done if I'm going to get the finishing touches on. I'm guessing I'll have to free up about 1000 entities in order to fit in the ending, soundscapes, and cubemaps.

Time to start hacking...

Thank god a big map, most of Oc maps are small but have alot of combine/zombies/zombines/antlions/headcrabs/and most shit.

Yea, it's big - unfortunately it's probably not going to make Halloween :(

Another delay happened yesterday - our internet went down, my dad's computer died, and another one of our computers got infected with spyware. All in one day. So we finally got the internet back up, and the idiots at Telus somehow made it so that my computer can't connect to the internet, but everyone elses can. (It gives me a weird "login" page to telus whenever I try to surf the web.)

Essentially, the day was one big writeoff.

So yea. No map this halloween. I'll release it after, but it just won't be the same. :'(

I still need to add in the last little bit of the map, cubemaps, and soundscapes, and get it under 4096 entities.

Yea, right.

Yea, sometimes I really hate pc's. Then I remember they're great for games :S. Oh well.

Looks like this weekend is new target for release - I'm doing a prelim compile tomorrow to see if any vis/rad problems exist.

Still to do:
-Last little bit at end of map - epic finish type dealy
-Cubemaps
-Soundscapes
-Re-working weapon and ammo positioning thoughout level

I've managed to lower my entites all the way down to 3659 :? not bad - I think i can make it work but it'll be tight. (I cut it down by slashing out ~500 info_nodes I can live without, merging a ton more func_details, and re-working some triggers. So nothing's been actually removed from the map (yet).)

It's 2:30AM. Going to bed. :?

Small status update again:

I've finished re-working all the ammo, weapons, etc. and it plays quite well. (One player cannot kill a zombie without reloading at least once. Two players can. :thumbup:)

I've screwed around with the zombies (numbers, healths, positions, etc), and I think I've got them down.

I've done all the soundscapes, and added in a whole bunch of music to listen to while killing zombies.

I've added all the player spawns.

All that's left to do is to add cubemaps. Unfortunately, my entities are currently at 4,049, leaving me 46 entities to do my cubemaps with. So it looks like I'll be stretching them pretty thin. Also, I'm going to try and re-factor some more entities - leaving in only what entities I absolutely must have.

So, yea. If all goes well, I'll be releasing sometime this week.

EDIT: By the way, does anyone know what the console commands are for increasing the amount of ammo the player can hold?
