fug's WIP Mapadds!

Well I jumping from one project to another as always, but all are getting closer!

This is something for halloween I may make two mapadd's though because I'm 99% complete on one!

So lazy mapping yes, I just can't be arsed with building my own at the moment, I love the building phase of hammer more than the I/O, though when you run into troubles all aspects get you down.

So as a lifter I'm converting for sure another cs:s map. Horror style!
de_prodigy was sort of inspired by golden eye 64.
de_nuke was sort of inspired by The Abyss.

So this mapadd is a bit on the Alien theme, but here's the true inspiration, I forgot I used to get owned by coin up machines on this, how many of ya remember?

Would you please add some pics so we know what you're really up to? Or would they spoil the surprise?

I'm going for maximum gore, if only we had scripted melee's, I'd have Ice picks knives katana's the lot!

FPS isn't so hot in the last pictures but it was during testing and I have a bug that was reducing it drastically.

Nice!! I love the upside-down barnacles!! That's awesome!!

Glad to see someone else is working on some Halloween content too!!

Well just an update no actual progress as my pc is currently the other side of the planet. But heres a picture of the latest mappadd I have in progress. This was shown to the devs a couple of months ago. Im bored sat at a computer so I thought id paste the link for all to see...

Its going to be a dod"s mappadd and its likely to be totally in black and white. its a mystery zombie halloween thing i mentioned before.

Wow, I love this "greyscale" looking, very nice, and it makes more sense for using old weapons.
And also happy to see you don't forget us, even if you can't work at your map projects :wink: .

Unlucky Ny youll have to dip yur hand into yer wallet. And glad you like it Mak.

I was inquiring about using film grain.vmt but its an engine shader Valve only have access to :*( But never mind I think black and white is quite fitting especially for this map, the night time and snow drops really set the scene. And yeah I was trying to give an old fashioned effect/feel to everything.

I[ve also been experimenting with weird fish eye effects etc. Im looking foward to getting back...though enjoying my time out here my OC addiction runs deep.

A bit of an update, I'll use this thread to talk about mapadds.

So the last mapadd I show'd dod:s map in black and white. That map I work on and off but tbh haven't progressed far. Lack of motivation is the fact I've only converted one dod:s weapon and that shoots from the players origin as I suspect they all will unless something with the attachments gets fixed. I just at the moment don't have the know how or a model decompiler that works. My sdk is truly a mess. So, this map is sort of on hold, but perhaps I'll finish as I really like the concept I came up with for this one.

Mappadding is by no means easy in some ways and yet easy in others, with hammer and oc you can produce quite good mapadd
mini missions though in other ways you are very restricted with what you can A). In hammer do B). With a map you didn't design do.

I still feel W0rf0x did a top notch job with de_port he picked very good entities to use for that particular map (gand aswell with cs_militia. I think I like what I've done so far though to come up with new ideas always gets harder.

WIP cs_assault is the only other mapadd I have in the works for cs:s, which will be an assassination map (trying to make good use of sniper weapons).

I have talked with W0rf0x about cs_compound before (A nice high skybox could perhaps use air npcs).
I've looked at de_train a lot.
And have wondered around the rest looking for ideas possibilities. So If anyone has any ideas requests please let me know. Or If you think your up to the job you should have a go, i'm willing to try help.

On that note:

I liked using grunts in all my mapadds though feel I never gave the player a decent fight against the grunts. This will probably be the last time I make a cs:s mapadd with them, next I'm going combine or xen only.
So, de_dust is complete but I'm actually making this a double mission so you can add de_dust2 to the list (And the way things look I think I can complete 2 by within a day).
Basically I don't want to get your hopes up, as de_dust is limited, It'll be a gun fight and not much else, same with de_dust2, I've added an objective but both mapadds will be the same just location different.
Having said that, it fairly tough.

Going back to getting others to mapadd, I may consider releasing the vmf's so people can take a look? sound like a good Idea?

Maximum gore eh? Just use the extreme blood effects from SMOD.

also more suggestions for the splatterhouse mapadd :

make the corpses fly 100 miles even at the slightest provocation (even a little poke with the crowbar)

Make them convulse on the floor

And dont forget:
