HGrunt Recolor

Post by Vladamirlenin »

I was hoping to acquire/learn how to make a couple of reskins for the Hgrunt's.

I hopefully wanted helmet (but not beret) and clothes reskins in the colors of:
-Marine Khaki
-Tiger Stripe
-Choco-chip
-And probably a few inspired by MGS:3 camo's

Help? :3

Well for starters, you need an image editing program (I use Photoshop, some ppl use GIMP, maybe even Paint.NET)

You also need to learn about how the material system in Source works soo: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki ... a_Material

read up and use google

Well, I know how to make .vtfs and such, but I don't know how to make it accept the new skin: Once or twice a changed the .vtf, kept the same name, and still nothing happened :<

Just checking you're keeping the same vtf names, so that the vmt still links to the vtf correctly right?

It should be easy, I dont really understand why you're having trouble.

I checked again, same name down to the letter and capitalizations.

Any suggestions on a .MDL edittor so I can just make a new MDL and tell it to use a different skin? I tried a few but none of 'em liked the fact I was editting an OC model as opposed to a HL2 one

Hex editor, but I honestly think that its the VTF plugin for the image editing program that is you're problem when it comes to editing skins. And saving in VTF format,

You should check the options you save as i.e

compressed texture, uncompressed, with or with out alpha channel etc.

I got the VTF mod for Paint.net, and it seemed to me when I saved the images they were still .vtf's
