DooM 3 vs HL 2

Just read OLD holywar thread about DooM3 vs HL2.

DooM3 is revolutionary... Blablabla
HL2 got crappy unmodable engine.... Blablabla (Lolwut?)
DooM3 will live long though big community developing content
HL2 graphics are shitty... Blablabla

WHERE IS YOUR BLOODY DOOM 3 NOW???
HUH???
WHERE IS IT NOW?


DooM 3 got like 100 custom levels and like 10 finished mods(And few unfinished TCs)
HL 2... Well... much more.

I wouldn't say HL2 has crappy graphics, but not the best, I would say the same for doom3(Though the lighting in D3 is much better then HL2).

I am unsure why doom3 modding died down so much, I assume it was the lack of information in regards to modding, unlike HL2 where the developer is very supportive and open with information towards modding.

yeah, this is just like 360 users vs ps3 users(ps3 still wins) hl2 may not have the best graphics, but it has one of the biggest modding community's known to mankind. and doom3....not the easiest to mod.

Only in the default SP campaign for D3.
Some maps have better lighting.

I've found some "daytime" maps.
And...
They're ugly as hell.

Understand, that is user-created content, thus its not going to be perfect, I wouldn't judge a game engine such as Source was "ugly as hell" if you made a horrible map.

Anyway, Doom3/Tech 4 was made for indoor maps, unlike half life2, if you use an application for it's unintended use, most likely it will not come out to great.

The outdoor parts in Doom 3 were nice, kinda like what Red Faction should of been.

Funny. At the time many considered the graphics of HL2 and Doom3 to be revolutionary.

they changed when jbmod was released, and when info on bm:s was released.

I went to quakecon this year. Played the new Wolfenstein demo.

I fell in love...

I think i can finally enjoy killing nazi's again.

Also, it is much easier to mod Doom3, for example, how would I make a pistol shoot more rounds, or say rockets? In HL2?

Hell of a lot easier in D3, just go to it's base dir and your find two folders: "def" and "script", only a few values changed and there you go a automatic enemy tracking rocket launcher pistol.
