Keys for doors?

How would you get a key like for opening doors that you can get of monsters.

I not entirely sure but I would go about it, with something like this.


Do you want the key to be made from a model or a brush? do you want the key to be carried or merely collected and then trigger what ever you want unlocked?
I'm not sure about brushes, If a brush I would tie it to a func_physbox and then create a point_template for the brush or model, If you want the item to drop where ever the dead monster/npc drops then you may have to experiment with parenting the item/template to the npc. And then use a some sort of output input like Ondeath key1 forcespawn fire only once set to yes!

I'm quite often wrong when I give advise so I hope what I've said gives you some ideas and a starting point.

Yea, physics object with a filtered trigger to unlock the door.
