Render distance for players!

Players view and render distance! I think my map is too long, if you stand at one base the mountains behind the opposite base are only rendering as you get closer, I tried hiding it with fog, but I'm wondering if I can change/ if its safe to change the max viewable distance?

If not I'll shorten the length of the map before I get any further!

Me thinks it's an engine limit.

No!
You shouldnt change it. Its all about the Max Viewable Distance you can set in the Map Properties.
I once created a testmap that reached almost the full Size of a HL2 Map and everything rendered.

Can't see anything about max viewable distance, there are fade distance for props and max occludee and min occluder % settings <---is it either of those? Or do I to add an output or something? Cant find much about on Valve wikki :?

Make sure start fade is -1 and end fade is 0. min and max occludee should be 0. And make sure you didn't turn any fading crap on for your ents. Half-Life 1 had a distance limit, I don't believe hl2 does.
