Names

In some of these maps. I see names. You may not know what I am talking about so here: When I spawn a Combine, it says: npc_combine_s, but in some maps when Combines are already spawned, it can say: 'Combine Soldier'. How can we do this? BTW, can we do this in-game? Maybe as well as spawning Elites and Prison Guards in-game?
