That's right! After slaving away at my computer all day and completely failing to do anything else, I am proud to announce in exhaustion:

You and the rest of Patrol 273 must investigate the infested zone, isolating Sector 59 while defending Sector 57.

Airwatch copies no activity in location.

A Reminder: Premature mission termination will result in terminal prosecution.

The map itself is based in a valley cul-de-sac, with a combine base on one end. Players play as combine, and start off travelling inside a combine APC towards the base. Upon arrival, the protective thumper fails. Shortly thereafter, the base is overrun by an antlion attack!

Players have to fend off waves of antlions for 30 minutes, until a dropship arrives to airlift them out. The waves come at regular intervals, and often allow a minute or two for players to re-group, grab ammo and health, and prepare for the next wave. (Though on Hard mode, waves are usually longer, and breaks shorter). To win: get all your players into the dropship.

Players spawn with a sub-machine gun, pistol, and a stunstick. To get more guns and ammo, proceed to the dispensers, where many other weapons can be bought, via the buttons on the side of the dispenser. There are three dispensers, each dispensing three different weapons (that's 9 weapons). Lives can also be bought at the combine monitor - you can buy an extra life for yourself, or one extra life for everyone on the team. 2 friendly turrets are available to set up, merely use E to pick them up and position them where you want (Note: the antlions will attack them). More turrets can be purchased at the Turret Construction Center (just to the left of the initial turrets).

Initially, players choose from three levels of difficulty:
  • * Easy: One to three players can survive, though it's difficult with just one. Enemies can be killed easily. Weapons cost less.
    * Medium: four to seven players can survive, though not easily. Enemies have normal health. Weapons cost average.
    * Hard: going into this with less than eight players is suicidal. Enemies have much more health than Medium. Weapons cost more.

This version is essentially an updated-for-1.33 version of the previous version. No more npcs have been added (yet), but I've tweaked numerous bugs and added in a bunch more features.


New/Updated Features:
  • * Lives System - Players start with 4 lives, and can buy extra lives for themselves. Players can also buy extra lives for the whole team, allowing other players to be resurrected.
    * Merchants - Players now must buy any additional weapons they require.
    * Easy/Medium/Hard Difficulty - Difficulty also affects the prices of the merchants.
    * Spawn Items - Players spawn with a stunstick, a pistol, and a smg1. Anything further they have to buy.
    * More Weapons - A few more weapons got added in. Yay!
The only thing the map currently does NOT do, which I completely forgot about until just posting now, is that it doesn't force all players to use a combine model. I'm not even sure if that's possible. Whatever. Anyways, it's designed for Combine players.

Notes:
  • * Three dispensers exist, allowing a total of nine additional weapons to be purchased.
    * Ammo for all the weapons can be found either in ammo crates or lying around.
    * Lives are purchased underneath the combine monitor. The team can all contribute to buying an extra life for the team.
    * Additional Turrets can be purchased at the Turret Construction Center (left of original turrets).
    * Final note: Hard mode is HARD.

Initially, players start in an intro room with the difficulty selection and a start button. Select the initial options using the pistol and watch the intro, which is projected onto monitors in the start room. (Only 30 seconds long)

Bugs (NOTE: these are old. See top for more up-to-date bugs.): The only major bugs I've found on this map (aside from the antlions) are:
  • 1) on a listen server, the lives mode does not get implemented properly. To solve: restart the map or change to a different map and change back.
    2) occassionally, as the map uses teleporters, the usual problem with teleporters can occur, namely respawning inside someone, which isn't very pleasent. Currently there isn't much of a fix, other than get the **** out of the spawn area ASAP. (Which players will generally do, as they are often under attack from antlions).
    3) If not everyone makes it into the dropship and the people left behind are killed, it still counts as winning. Then again, if everyone dies without getting to the dropship, the mission is considered "completed", but you are certainly dead, so in my mind you failed.
    4) when the dropship arrives, if you get all your team inside the map will go to credits, but will not end. This will probably be rectified this weekend.

Hurrah its out (does a funky dance) *downloading zip now* urm noobie question here, how do i install it?

Apart from that well done on a very good looking map, and we are all looking forward to more maps from you. *WOOT FIRSTS POST/DOWNLOAD* any way i will review it hopefull when i get it to work!

edit: i tell you all now download this map and play it , its realy fun!, i note befor hand place the turrets befor you acctivate the thumper thing.

hmm i played it on my dedicated server without crashing
edit: my server had ep1 content on, maybe thats the problem

This is news to me, when playing on a listen server it's never crashed.

I don't think ep1 content is the problem, as I don't have ep1 content enabled on my game.

Just a note to those out there that I'm resurrecting this thread from the dead to give a quick update: Due to fug4life's incessant nagging, I'm going to be dusting off this map, updating it, and fixing a lot of bugs. Currently, I've fixed some of the problems caused by the lives system (mainly by removing it), but I'll also be making more updates, changes, and additions to the map. (Nothing major, just making it run better/more bug free).

Estimated release date for the next version is going to be sometime after Xmas.
