And what bothers me, is that the citizens hold it right! yet "highly trained" soldiers hold it wrong(so does alyx)
Bullet richochets don't make sparks and cars don't explode in car crashes also. Entertainment like movies and video games aim to "entertain" by making things happen in the most visually or audibly fantastic ways.
In the Dark Knight, they used the sound of a dolphin screaming for tires skidding and celery breaking is used as sound for bones breaking in many fight movies.
My point is that when you're making something to entertain people you spice things up to make it more appealing. Perhaps Valve's rigging department thought holding the shotguns like that looked cooler than realistically. Who knows?

I assume that is why.shiftey wrote: Perhaps Valve's rigging department thought holding the shotguns like that looked cooler than realistically. Who knows?
Though I think it looks worse and unrealistic, to think of it, my dad tried shooting like that today with an AK-74, he missed every shot and he is a very good shot, though, you can't really "aim" when you hold it like that, you only have a general direction...
Oh well, enough about me ranting about the way Valve made there soldiers hold the shotgun(and you also noticed how combine suck at shooting? that why the rebels win against them...)
And neat skin keychain, wish I had a personal player model.
