Guns And Swords
Now that im getting a hang of 3D Max i've started making decent looking weapons, I hope it continues to look good at the end.
Persona 3 Evoker - 90ish% done in smoothing and details
Keyblade - Oblivion
Desert Eagle - Forgot the reference pic at college xD
Custom M4
WIP goes from top to bottom.
Any sort of feedback would be great!

Re: Guns And Swords
first one looks as if it has way too many polys.
also the first looks like it would be really hard to animate.
the last two looks like you made them with boxes(?), you should use planes instead of box
like when i made that glock using the tutorial from moddb, its way better idea to use planes to do the guns and leave them hollow inside.

Well for the first gun its using 824 polygons right now, not sure how many polygons I can use for the source engine. As for the other 2 weapons, I have used the plane to model them, ive just symmerty them to make it look whole.
Ive learned my lesson for using box models

Re: Guns And Swords
You can use a few thousand polygons for Fistperson weapon models, I wouldn't go over 7,000 unless you really need to. As for third person, I wouldn't go over 3,000 unless needed.
Just remember;
There can only be one firstperson(view) model on screen and it's really close to view so it should be high-poly.
There can be a bunch of thirdperson(world) models and they can have LODs applied to them, so they can be high-poly, just make sure to apply the correct LODs.

If you finish the Evoker, I'm gonna force you to make a Mara model while you're at it, haha
