HDR compile error

Post by Hickadam »

Alright, i'm kinda stumped.

I've been using HDR for the first time and learning as I go. It's pretty straightforward, and I am really liking the results.

Problem is, vrad.exe crashes SOMETIMES.

And that is what is really bugging me. Why does vrad occasionally crash during the hdr lighting pass?

Sometimes I just run the compile again, and it's fine, even if I didn't change anything.

I'm not really sure what to do, the more lighting I add to the map, the longer the compile takes, and it seems the greater the liklihood of the crash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Not sure, you might have broken a lighting rule. :o

Not even sure what you mean by a lighting rule...

Maybe I should find a real HDR skybox texture, instead of the LDR one I have, which references itself as an HDR texture.

Still doesn't answer why it only happens sometimes...

I havnt had any problems, but my specs are different than yours.
Its hard to say. Valve might know the problem and have a fix or are working on it. Could have a fix in the next sdk update.
But who knows, might not be a known problem.

So you play Half-Life 2 with full everything then I would presume.

Alright, this has nothing to do with HDR compile errors, but I just fired up Faceposer, and... low and behold: it crashes right after I hit "redo extraction" to get the file lip-synced.

I mean... what the hell... I tried other files too, so it's not just me. I refeshed the SDK content and still nothing.

I think valve has it out for me...

Just about. Antialiasing is only on 2x, Filtering is on Anisotropic 4x, and Waiting for vertical sync is disabled. Everything else is on it's highest.
