how do i start the HL2 SP or HL2:EP1 SP story in coop mode?

Post by minimalist »

hi,
sorry if this is answered somwhere else, i couldn't find it...

how do i actually start the HL2 (or HL2:EP1) storyline with my friends in the LAN or internet (not as dedicated server)?

thx for the mod, sounds as it is the only good working coop mod for the HL2 native missions.

thx for any help!

ok first you:

go to options in OC and select enable ep1 content

then start a server and type this in to the console: changemap d1_trainstation_01 and it will take you to the first level(you can change the level variable to choose where you wish to start out at).

Follow the above and also enable hl2_episodic console command.
We are currently dealing with a crash related to the recent engine updates which will not allow you to move from map to map via changelevels. Please wait for our next update which should be released soon.
Also, episode 1 maps are named ep1_*areaname replace *areaname with the episode 1 area.

nice, sounds easy, i have read somwhere that i should not play HL2 levels if i have the Episode 1 content enabled. so to make it clear for me:

if i want to play HL2 levels in coop:

- disable the Episode 1 content
- start a server
- select the HL2 level with changelevel <mapname>

if i want ot play Episode 1 in coop:

- enable the Episode 1 content
- start a server
- console command hl2_episodic 1
- select the EP1 level with changelevel <mapname>

Wait, do you need episode 1 to play the maps? I have ep.1 but if you do not need the episode to use content then you are in big dodo...

:lmao: We arnt stupid, of course you need to own episode 1. If you don't the game wont start when you turn on that content mount.
Dont use Episode 1 stuff unless you are playing episode 1 maps. Dedicated servers with different models ( not episode 1 ) wont look correct to you since the animation numbers wont match up.

very, very cool! so your mod would be the only one with that feature then... contact me if you need a betatester (im software developer too, which may help, but in fact i cant wait for seeing that working on my screen... ;))

Im curious, do you just need to have Episode One installed to mount it? Or do you need to have it added to the account you're playing from to mount it?

Btw, first post. :D

You need it installed, were else would the Mod get the Episode content?
