what do you think...

Post by sgae »

hi, since my "jungle" map has lost...

i have one question...

what do you thing about remake opposing force for obsidian conflict with coop?

in my opinion it can be awesome and maybe can help the mod to be more popular... too much hl2 single player but what happens with black mesa?

the adventadges of "remake" OP4 for OC will be

-more detailed maps
-less "loading" or change levels
-more inteligent npc's
-coop perfectly suported without retard single player bugs
-better sounds
-maybe i can do the maps with new areas (if you like)
-more fun/nice maps for OC
-more maps for OC
-a new reason to add new content to the OC (new npc's for example)
(let's finish with the npc spam)

actually i'm doing one chapter, i'm doing fast the basic geometry (with gay dev textures) and for now all is really fine, i don't wnat to do the maps with the detail of ep1 or CSS because i want to optimize a lot the maps and reduce the lag/server load all as i can...

what do you think about this?

is a good idea?

do you like this sugestion?

This sounds like a huge project, If you can pull it off then, Yes I long for more opfor. There's many aspects that you will encounter trouble with IMO
I just hope you know what your getting into.
If anything a recreation of some of the chapters in terms of mapping geometrey would be a nice addition.

All I can say is good luck!

Just the npc's alone would be hard enough to subsitute for. The underground pipes without the voltigores jsut wouldn't be the same.

for first you should just convert the maps so players will still get to play it and so it will be one more resson for the team to code the portal gun (I forgot the name) and the npcs ! heres the tut http://www.obsidianconflict.com/forums/ ... php?t=1451 I exspect to see it out by the end of the week with zombine gonomes, antlion piners(forgot there name to),andlion gaurd volgore, combine with pulse rifle for shock tropers, tentacle for the 1 eyed bastered. the boss can be brush based.(the 1 week thing was a joke I will take 1 1/2 weeks :P )

no no, im not converting the op4 maps to hl2 (first i don't have the original maps and the hl1 decompilators are crappy and u only get a shitty .map with a lot of errors... i redoing the maps...)

i think today i will have the basic geometry of one of4 chapter...

i'll do:

1 map= 1 chapter...

PS: that "portal gun" is named displacer if i'm not wrong ;)

Well, I was hopeing to someday make a BM themed map, I already planned everything from weapons to NPC health, even the levels and levelnames. I just need to learn mapping, and stop being so lazy. I was going to do the one map = one chapter.

a little upgrade:

make an idea about the size of the map, the basic geometry is at 60-70% aprox.

I think if you do go through with this you should release maps as you make them instead of one large map pack. That way people will be able to play them asap. ;)

yo say it's better do 3 or 4 maps than do 1 big map?

the map is all interior and i'll don t add to much detail... (only soma basics and decorative... for now the map is well optimized and the vis compiles excelent and does his job very good... i think for now i'll continue with the idea of one big map...

i see some medium size maps and their bsp size are 20 or 30mb... and some big maps qith less detail... y use default lightmap size...

I'm not a 100% sure, but I think he wasn't talking about the size of the maps or the quantity, I think he meant, as you complete each map/chapter/original opfor level change or whatever, release after each is completed.

In short feed us as soon as one is ready,.. rather than release the say 10 maps or whatever it will take to achieve your recreation of opfor.

I have to agree :D
